Valmet has entered the moulded fibre market with the launch of its ‘3D Fiber’ technology, designed for fast, high-capacity production of sustainable, three-dimensional (3-D) packaging as an alternative to plastic.

“The demand for moulded fibre packaging solutions is growing,” says Petri Rasinmäki, executive vice-president (EVP) for packaging and paper. “With Valmet 3D Fiber, we support our customers in seizing new business opportunities, strengthening their market position and accelerating the shift toward fibre-based packaging.”

The end-to-end system enables production of light, rigid products like trays, plates and food packaging, using cellulose fibres. Its development has spawned from a long-term collaboration effort with Metsä Spring, which since 2020 has worked to convert wood-based fibres into sustainable packaging.
