VMAX added an open-box and refurb section to its US store, and it covers almost the whole lineup. VMAX mechanics inspect every scooter at the company’s Los Angeles service center before it ships. The listings carry a 12-month warranty.

There are two conditions to choose from, Like New and Lightly Used. Lightly Used is cheaper, so that is the price we show. Shipping is free in California and runs $30 or $50 to the rest of the lower 48, depending on the scooter’s weight.

On paper, the discounts look huge. VMAX measures them against list price, and it has new scooters on sale right now too. We looked up what each model costs new today and put that gap on every card.

Before you buy

• Like New and Lightly Used are VMAX’s own grades. VMAX does not spell out the difference, so ask before you order if scuffs matter to you.
• The refurb listings show a 12-month warranty. VMAX’s site also promotes a 2-year warranty, so confirm which one you get before you pay.
• Our RIDERGUIDE code does not work on refurb scooters. We tried it at checkout on October 12 and VMAX rejected it. It still takes $15 off a new VMAX.
• Stock is thin. The long-range batteries on the VX4 and VX2 Extreme are already gone.
