Over the past ten years, Future Earth has grown from a newly-operational secretariat into a globally connected sustainability science organization. Today, our community includes more than 30,000 scientists engaged through 25 Global Research Networks and 19 National and Local Committees representing Future Earth across countries and regions. Together, this community has produced 6,700 scientific publications. Science in Motion: 2015-2025 traces the decade of growth, collaboration, and impact that made it possible.

The report highlights Future Earth’s contribution across five areas: building transdisciplinary capacity through programs like TERRA+ School and PEGASuS; catalyzing transformative science through initiatives including the Earth Commission; shaping global agendas through efforts including 10 New Insights in Climate Science and engagement with international scientific and policy processes; expanding the reach of sustainability science by making it more accessible through Anthropocene Magazine and other platforms; and enabling collective action through convenings like the Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress and partnerships such as the Belmont Forum.

Landmark achievements, including the publication of Safe and Just Earth System Boundaries in Nature, demonstrate the reach, credibility, and influence of the Future Earth community. While the report reflects on Future Earth’s first decade as an operational organization, it’s also a look ahead. The relationships, trust, and infrastructure built over the past ten years position Future Earth to meet the challenges of the next decade with the same ambition and collaboration that have defined the first.
