Explore a year of scientific contributions, global collaboration, and community-led initiatives across the Future Earth network.

Future Earth’s 2025-2026 Annual Report highlights a year of scientific contributions, collaboration, and connecting sustainability research with policy and action around the world.

Through a global community of more than 30,000 scientists, Global Research Networks, and National and Local Committees, Future Earth continued to advance transdisciplinary research and strengthen connections among researchers, policymakers, and communities.

Advancing science for global decision-making

At COP30 in Belem, Future Earth and its partners brought emerging scientific evidence into international climate discussions through the 10 New Insights in Climate Science 2025/2026 and the Resilience Science Must-Knows. The Global Carbon Project also marked two decades of the Global Carbon Budget and published new assessments of global hydrogen and methane budgets, strengthening the evidence available to decision-makers.

Connecting global research with regional priorities

The Asia Science Mission for Sustainability selected its first two demonstration initiatives, bringing scientists and local communities together to address interconnected sustainability challenges in India and the Philippines. Across the wider network, new collaborations and capacity building programs supported locally grounded approaches to sustainability research and action.

Strengthening a global community

The Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress convened more than 1,400 participants from over 80 countries, while initiatives supporting early-career researchers, Indigenous youth leadership, and international scientific collaboration created opportunities for knowledge exchange across disciplines and generations.

As Future Earth enters its next decade, the report also reflects on the network’s evolving structure and shared vision for the future, including establishing a new Global Coordination Hub.
