New guidance has added impetus to the search for a reliable and effective PFAS treatment solution. CPL/Puragen details the use of its PFAS treatment system Search, Capture, Destroy at a UK-based water utility.

The DWI (Drinking Water Inspectorate) introduced strict limits on PFAS in treated water in August 2024, with a requirement for close monitoring of a range of PFAS concentrations.

In this instance, the client, a UK-based water utility, was dealing with PFAS contamination in raw water at several of their sites.

The challenge
Although the client had worked with Puragen in the past, it had been on smaller-scale purification projects. The challenge was much larger this time, and the client was seeking a solution that could handle PFAS issues at multiple sites. Puragen tendered for the work and succeeded in winning a five-year contract against more established competitors. Pivotal to this attainment seems to have been the fact of offering both a unique solution and pre-existing expertise in water treatment, particularly with activated carbon technology. The company demonstrated a deep understanding of water quality issues and offered a novel product specifically designed to address PFAS removal, combined with advanced thermal reactivation that has been demonstrated as capable of completely destroying the PFAS molecules in the spent carbon.

Puragen was able to offer a complete solution for PFAS removal and destruction, including the following elements:

The relationship continues to evolve with the client, highlighting Puragen’s commitment to advancing activated carbon technologies in drinking water treatment and remaining adaptable to future needs.
