Ruskin Hall’s solar panels are now fully operational!

The 240 rooftop photovoltaic panels are providing about 15% of the building’s electricity, covering all common areas (lounge, laundry room, fitness center, & hallways) – and already produced 16,150 kWh this year. This new addition joins the solar array at the Petersen Sports Complex and ongoing installations at Posvar and David Lawrence halls.

Pitt’s solar efforts are a key part of the University’s goal to reach 50% renewable electricity by 2030 and 100% by 2037. These projects also help reduce electricity transmission losses by using solar power directly at the buildings where it is produced. Pitt continues to purchase power from the Vesper Gaucho solar site, which supplies about 18% of campus-wide electricity annually.
