Danisense has introduced a new current transducer for isolated DC and AC current measurement in PCB-mounted power electronics applications. The DP12IP measures currents up to 18 A and boasts a maximum linearity error of 10 ppm.
The DP12IP is based on closed-loop compensated fluxgate technology, and it uses a fixed excitation frequency and second-harmonic zero-flux detection. It accommodates measurement resistors up to 100 Ω at full scale. The package measures 32 mm and weighs 250 g, which allows it to fit into 1U power supplies and other space-constrained equipment.
As an isolated sensor, the DP12IP measures current in a power circuit while keeping its output galvanically separated from the circuit, so the measurement signal stays referenced to the low-voltage control electronics. Closed-loop fluxgate transducers continuously null the magnetic flux in the sensor core, keeping the magnetic element near zero field. That approach helps hold linearity error low and keeps DC measurement stable, and a 10 ppm linearity error keeps the ratio between the output signal and the measured current consistent across the operating range.
Typical applications for the DP12IP include magnet power supplies for particle accelerators, precision power supplies, precision servo drives for motion control, battery test benches, battery emulators, and power measurement and analysis systems.
