I researched and tested the top clean skincare brands on the market — these are my favorites for natural, organic, and nontoxic ingredients at a range of price points.
My skin gave up on me in my twenties. Rashes, psoriasis, alopecia. The kind of stuff that makes you rethink everything, down to what’s in your face cream. So naturally, I started making my own (sorry, mom, for what the family blender went through).

I’ve always been into makeup and skincare. Always trying the next new product to hit the shelves, touting full glam to my university classes. But once these issues came up, I put a halt to everything. At one point, I was deep in a DIY era: Melting slabs of shea butter, whipping up coconut and essential oils, all in the same doomed family blender.
Eventually, as I got older and learned how to take better care of myself, those health issues improved and went away. But a new fear took their place: That introducing anything new into my routine might bring it all back. The girl who once couldn’t get enough of trying every product on the shelf turned into someone who washed her face with water and slathered on unscented drugstore cream, calling it a “routine”.
It took some time, but eventually, I rebuilt trust in my own skin. And with it, a real routine. Not the 10-step kind I’d been influenced to chase when I was younger, but not so bare-bones that I wasn’t seeing results either. I wanted balance: Skincare with ingredients that actually do something, without the questionable ingredients that don’t need to be there.
Testing these clean skincare brands came at the perfect time. It brought back my love for caring for myself and reminded me what it feels like to trust the products I’m putting on my body again.
Whether you’re looking for a lightweight everyday moisturizer, a richer routine for dry skin, or want to know which clean skincare brands actually impressed me after testing them side by side, you’ve come to the right place.
Our criteria & methodology:
We’ve combed through ingredient lists, corresponded with brands, referenced EWG ratings, and researched and read through thousands of customer reviews to determine the very best clean skincare brands that are safe, use thoughtful ingredients, and are accessible for different types of skin and budgets. When it comes to fragrance, most of these brands offer fragrance-free options, but for those with a scent, the fragrance typically comes from natural botanical extracts and essential oils rather than synthetic fragrances.
For each of these clean skincare brands, I tested the latest bestselling cleanser, treatment product, and moisturizer at the end of each day on my normal skin. I didn’t wear makeup during my testing process and only occasionally wore sunscreen, so I’ve noted which days I was wearing sunscreen and how the cleansers I used on those days performed. For each skincare routine, I followed each brand’s recommended instructions and put them to the test, sharing my thoughts on how well each routine cleansed, treated, and hydrated my skin. Most of these products work well for all skin types, though I’ve noted where I think certain products may be better suited to specific skin types.
For each brand, I’ve included close-up photos of the swatches for every product I tested, alongside a photo of how my skin looked immediately after each skincare routine. I was a bit skeptical that trying so many different products might cause my skin to react, but as you’ll see in the photos, my skin has never looked happier, glowier, or smoother! You can rest assured that these clean skincare brands are the real deal.
This list is regularly updated with emerging favorites that meet the criteria below.

}
Best For | Glowing skin
Natural & Organic | Meets Credo Clean Standard, clean & organic ingredients, synthetic fragrance-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, no PEGs, no synthetic preservatives, vegan, cruelty-free
EWG Rating | 2-6
Fully Fragrance-Free Options Available | Yes
Price Range | Cleanser ($26), Serum ($56), Moisturizer ($54)
The team behind Ursa Major understands the power of nature, which is why these products are plant-powered and formulated only with clean ingredients — you won’t find petrochemicals or synthetic fragrances in this collection. Instead, enjoy products made with sea fennel, shea butter, and sustainably certified palm oil, just to name a few. The brand is also certified plastic-negative, has a carbon-neutral office, and uses recyclable packaging. If you were once a fan of the Clean & Clear Morning Burst cleanser (ahhh, we were!), Ursa Major’s face wash gives us all the energizing fragrance and exfoliation we love, without the microbeads or sulfates. (It’s a mood booster every morning!) Whether you’re after serums, tonics, balms, or washes, this certified B Corp has your skin covered.
Silsila’s Review: I’d heard so many good things about Ursa Major’s skincare line, so naturally I was excited to put them to the test. The Fantastic Face Wash rinsed away in one pump without stripping my skin, leaving my complexion brighter and more even. I followed this up with the Brighten Up Vitamin C Serum, a lightweight, fast-absorbing formula with two stable Vitamin C’s (housed in an opaque pump to stay potent) that left a glowy, not oily, base. But the Golden Hour Recovery Cream is the one that wowed me: Thick and buttery in the jar, light once absorbed, and only a dime-size needed for my whole face and neck. The ingredients are top tier too: Organic sea buckthorn to restore and moisturize, and organic calendula to replenish and soothe.

Fully Fragrance-Free Options Available | Yes

Founded 30 years ago, OSEA boasts a safe skincare collection that is healthy for our bodies and the earth. The brand’s products contain natural, plant-derived ingredients (hello, vegan-friendly), with one of the most notable inclusions being the sustainably harvested seaweed. This powerful ingredient, combined with pure, cold-pressed essential oils, makes OSEA products nourishing and one-of-a-kind. The brand is also Climate Label Certified, powered by renewable energy, and uses glass & recyclable packaging.
Silsila’s Review: I first fell in love with OSEA through their Anti-Aging Sea Serum (now reformulated into the Hyaluronic Sea Serum), and the rest of the routine delivered just as much. The Ocean Cleanser is infused with seaweed and tiny exfoliating beads that dissolve on contact, leaving skin fresh and clean without ever feeling tight. The Hyaluronic Sea Serum, packaged in a frosted glass bottle that channels the sea itself, is fragrance-free with a slippery texture that spreads easily and plumps skin instantly. I finished off the routine with the Seabiotic Water Cream, a fragrance-free, teal-colored cream that applies smoothly and leaves skin soft and hydrated without excess glow, making it a great daily moisturizer for all skin types.

EWG Rating | EWG-verified
Fully Fragrance-Free Options Available | Yes
Price Range | Cleanser ($52), Serum ($145), Moisturizer ($110)
Using nature’s most restorative and nourishing ingredients (like chebula, an ayurvedic fruit, and algae extract), this award-winning skincare brand has something for everyone. From the acne-prone skincare sets to the pregnancy-safe products, True Botanicals uses only organic and wildcrafted ingredients. Everything we’ve tried, we love, but the Pure Radiance Oil is a favorite with our team and the beauty community for a reason — it’s divine and shows real results in skin texture and radiance. We also love that this company offers a skincare quiz so that you can find the best products for you, and that you can subscribe for discounts.
Silsila’s Review: True Botanicals had me at first glance, with stunning packaging and longtime rave reviews from editors on my team, and it’s one of the most luxurious clean brands you can invest in, using clinically proven ingredients that are also MADE SAFE and EWG-verified. I started with the Ginger Turmeric Cleansing Balm, a thick, waxy balm with a mild ginger scent (and a thoughtful little wooden spatula) that easily melted off my sunscreen. The Renew Repair Nightly Treatment came next, an amber-colored, luxe-smelling serum that left my skin feeling pampered and nourished, like a trip to a Scandinavian spa. I sealed everything with the Chebula Extreme Cream, formulated to plump skin and soften fine lines, which left me with an instantly smoother, healthy sheen before bed.

Best For | Affordability
Natural & Organic | Certified organic ingredients, cruelty-free
EWG Rating | 1-6
Fully Fragrance-Free Options Available | Yes
Price Range | Cleanser ($15), Serum ($22), Moisturizer ($27)
When you want your skin to feel catered to, check out the ultra-affordable cocokind. Whether you’re looking for cleansers and creams or exfoliators and essences, you can shop the brand’s offerings based on your skin type. All of cocokind’s products are cruelty-free, sustainably made, and thoughtfully packaged in recyclable materials. (And most of its formulas feature certified organic ingredients!) Look at the label on each product to learn more about its sustainability and ethics. This is our go-to option for affordable organic SPF that you can snag while at Target!
Silsila’s Review: For the price and effectiveness, you really can’t go wrong with anything from cocokind. I put their oil to milk cleansing balm, vitamin C glow serum, and resurrection polypeptide cream to the test: The cleansing balm was a favorite, a jelly-like texture that turns into a creamy milk once water hits it, working into a gentle, lightweight lather and leaving a satin finish (pair it with a double cleanse). The vitamin C serum is basically a 3-in-1: A stable form of vitamin C, azelaic acid for mild exfoliation, and sodium hyaluronate, all in two pumps that are light enough for daily use. I topped it off with the resurrection polypeptide cream, which plumped my skin perfectly and left a comfy, non-greasy finish I can see myself wearing year-round.

EWG Rating | 1-3
Fully Fragrance-Free Options Available | Yes
Price Range | Cleanser ($40), Serum ($40), Moisturizer ($39)
Founded by nutritionist Ere Perez, this Aussie-based beauty brand takes a simple approach to skincare by combining botanical ingredients with science-backed actives to create formulas that are gentle enough for sensitive skin without sacrificing performance. The collection is made with naturally derived, toxin-free ingredients and skips common additives like parabens, synthetic fragrances, GMOs, and gluten, making it a great option for anyone looking to simplify their routine. Beyond its clean skincare, Ere Perez is equally committed to sustainability through low-waste packaging, carbon-neutral certification, cruelty-free and predominantly vegan formulas, ethical sourcing, and ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental footprint.
Silsila’s Review: I’m a sucker for cute packaging, and Ere Perez’s skincare delivers, especially the Fig All-Beauty Jelly, a multi-tasking jelly that cleanses, works as a slugging alternative to petroleum jelly, and transforms into a milky cleanser with water. The Australian Blue Cypress Face Nectar soaked right in and left my skin tone balanced with zero redness. I especially loved the Moringa All-Beauty Crème, which glides on effortlessly, comes in a travel-friendly squeeze tube, and contains ingredients I rarely see in skincare, like carrot, cornflower, and apricot. I sealed everything in with a few dabs of the Fig Jelly on drier spots (cuticles included), and woke up noticeably more hydrated.

6. 100% PURE
.icons-library-acf-row {

}
Best For | Gentle retinol
Natural & Organic | Certified organic & natural ingredients, vegan, cruelty-free
EWG Rating | 1-6
Fully Fragrance-Free Options Available | No; scents come from natural fruit & plant oils/extracts
Price Range | Cleanser ($30), Serum ($35), Facial Oil ($42)
100% PURE‘s certified organic products contain the very best ingredients and nutrients. The brand’s natural cleansers and masks detox and refresh skin, and the natural facial scrubs exfoliate and buff away bumps, flakes, and dullness. Plus, 100% PURE offers a full line of cosmetics and personal care products, and comes in recyclable packaging. Don’t be surprised when this company becomes your one-stop shop for all-natural products.
Silsila’s Review: I’d never tried retinol before, so 100% PURE’s affordable, award-winning line felt like the perfect entry point, and I put their Rose Water Gentle Cleanser, Multi-Vitamin + Antioxidants Potent PM Serum, and Multi-Vitamin + Antioxidants PM Facial Oil to the test. The cleanser is surprisingly runny (it pours out with zero squeezing), but it built the richest, foamiest lather of any cleanser I’ve used, with a pleasant natural rose scent, though the thin consistency makes it easy to overdispense. The serum and facial oil both pack concentrated vitamins and antioxidants, retinol, coenzyme Q10, vitamin E and C among them, and as a retinol beginner I braced for purging or dryness that never came. Both felt gentle; just don’t skip the SPF.

7. epionce

}
Best For | Barrier support for sensitive skin
Natural & Organic | Paraben-free, fragrance-free, sulfate-free, gluten-free, not tested on animals
EWG Rating | 2-7
Fully Fragrance-Free Options Available | Yes
Price Range | Serum ($165), Moisturizer 1 ($112), Moisturizer 2 ($132)
If you’re looking for skincare that blends the best of nature and science, Epionce is a brand you need to have on your radar. Developed by clinical dermatologist Dr. Carl Thornfeldt, its formulas are built around a barrier-first philosophy, using botanical ingredients and clinically proven ingredients to help improve everything from fine lines and dark spots to dryness, breakouts, and uneven texture. Every product is backed by independent clinical testing, and the fragrance-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, and gluten-free formulas are gentle enough for sensitive skin while still delivering dermatologist-level results.
Silsila’s Review: epionce makes clinically proven, no-nonsense skincare for sensitive, dry skin. I tested two of their moisturizers alongside the Intense Defense Serum, an all-in-one for fine lines and wrinkles that uses botanical (not synthetic) sources of Vitamins A, B, C, and D, and it quickly became my favorite of the line. The Renewal Facial Cream is a medium-weight moisturizer for normal to sensitive skin that left me feeling healthy and hydrated, though it does leave a slight film, making it better for nighttime use. The Intensive Nourishing Cream is noticeably thicker with a richer, slippier texture, is made for all skin types, and is versatile enough for day or night, leaving a slightly glowier finish. With photo results available on their website showing visible skin improvements after 8+ weeks of use, I’m excited to see how these perform long term!

8. ATTITUDE
.icons-library-acf-row {
margin-top: 0px;
margin-bottom: 0px;
padding-top: 0px;
padding-bottom: 0px;
}
Best For | Oily & combination skin
Natural & Organic | EWG-verified, plastic-free packaging options, vegan, cruelty-free, 92.9%+ natural origin ingredients
EWG Rating | EWG-verified
Fully Fragrance-Free Options Available | Yes
Price Range | Cleanser ($30), Serum ($50), Moisturizer ($50)
ATTITUDE’s Oceanly skincare line is worth all the rage — and here’s why: It’s made from 92.9% natural ingredients, is EWG-verified (meaning it is free of any concerning ingredients), and best of all, select products from the line come in plastic-free packaging and solid formulas that are super sustainable and easy to travel with. Both their bestselling anti-aging and mattifying solid skin creams last 204 uses (that’s six months!) and are made with phytoglycogen, which is known for reducing age spots and wrinkles. The brand also prioritizes its environmental initiatives by planting one tree for each purchase of its skincare line. Did we mention the line is also vegan and cruelty-free? We’ll take one of everything!
Silsila’s Review: Me and ATTITUDE products are like this 🤞. I tried their new Oceanly Pro line, including the Cleansing Oil, Pro-Age Face Serum, and Pro-Age Face Cream. The Cleansing Oil, made with castor, grapeseed, and sweet almond oil, efficiently melted off leftover sunscreen and rinsed clean without any greasy residue. The Face Serum (about three pumps for face and neck) left an invisible finish that didn’t alter my skin’s natural feel, while the Face Cream is light, non-greasy, and leaves a subtle, breathable finish that combo-oily skin friends will appreciate. It’s also packed with natural-origin peptides and ceramides, and is EWG-Verified and travel-friendly, though worth noting this new line skips ATTITUDE’s usual plastic-free packaging.

9. Annmarie Skin Care
.icons-library-acf-row {
margin-top: 0px;
margin-bottom: 0px;
padding-top: 0px;

}
Best For | Facial oils
Natural & Organic | MADE SAFE certified ingredients, cruelty-free, non-GMO, gluten-free & vegan options
EWG Rating | 1-3
Fully Fragrance-Free Options Available | Yes
Price Range | Cleanser ($54), Serum ($140), Facial Oil ($170); Trial Size Facial Oil ($33)
Annmarie Skin Care goes above and beyond in crafting its specialized botanical-infused skincare. Founded by Annmarie and Kevin Gianni, the brand’s been all about conscious and nontoxic formulas that truly work, since day one. Each product undergoes a three-step proprietary process: Organic and wildcrafted herbs and plant extracts are hand-selected for their quality and efficacy, infused into aloe vera and oils at low heat, and combined with skin-enriching oils and plant stem cells to deliver nourishing ingredients directly to your skin. Instead of using water as a base like many other skin care formulations, their formulas begin with this herb-infused blend of aloe vera and oils — so every drop is packed with purpose for results you can feel. What’s most impressive is that their products are MADE SAFE certified, meaning your skincare is completely free from 5,000+ toxic chemicals (including carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, heavy metals, and more) that can harm your health. A game changer!
Silsila’s Review: If your routine leans oil-heavy, you’ll love Annmarie’s plant oil and botanical-based lineup. The Restorative Cleansing Oil is a true oil cleanser with virtually no lather that’s designed to be used with a warm, damp washcloth (skip it, and it feels more like a facial treatment than a cleanser, though tea tree and manuka oil still get bare skin genuinely clean). Next came the Activated Hemp Serum, which uses antioxidants and regenerative hemp to nourish the skin barrier and left me radiant and glowy, and the Rejuvenating Facial Oil is less greasy than expected with a dewy, not oily, finish. These are an investment, and one I’d want to make long-term to really judge results, but the ingredient lists justify it. If oils aren’t your thing, the brand also just launched a classic moisturizer.

Best For | Pregnancy-safe skincare
Natural & Organic | EWG-partner, science backed, certified organic & plant-based ingredients, nontoxic, vegan, cruelty-free
EWG Rating | EWG-verified options, 1-3
Fully Fragrance-Free Options Available | Yes
Price Range | Cleanser ($82), Essence ($86), Moisturizer ($86)
Matrescence skincare is targeted towards typical maternity- and pregnancy-related issues such as hormonal acne, melasma, and stretch marks. Using only certified organic and sustainably sourced, plant-based ingredients, the brand creates powerful botanical formulas that are both pregnancy-safe and gentle on your skin, Matrescence also offers body butters, oils, and scrubs so you can take care of yourself head-to-toe! We also love that they use ethical sourcing with EWG-verified options, and recyclable & eco-friendly packaging.
Silsila’s Review: I received The Rose Glow Skincare Set from Matresence: A full ritual (cleanser, essence, cream) housed in gift-worthy packaging perfect for a mom or mom-to-be. The Purifying Cleanser needs water to really work (one pump plus water foams up nicely, no need for the three pumps I started with), and its bright citrus scent made for an invigorating start to the morning. The Brightening Essence applied easily and boosted my skin’s radiance, with a scent reminiscent of vintage jasmine perfume. The Brilliance Protection Soufflé is a thicker, whipped pink cream that takes some extra rubbing to absorb but leaves a healthy natural finish, targeting hyperpigmentation and improving elasticity with hormone-safe ingredients. A no-brainer for moms and moms-to-be.

Why choose clean skincare products?
Natural skincare products are great if you’re looking to boost your skin’s health with fewer artificial ingredients, chemicals, and fragrances. Unfortunately many skincare products include harmful chemicals which can compromise our skin and our health (like parabens, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances, which can mess with your skin’s natural balance or cause irritation). Rather, natural skincare harnesses the power of ingredients like plant extracts and oils that are typically gentler on the skin, with fewer chances of adverse effects. These ingredients also tend to be richer in absorbable vitamins and nutrients that help support your skin barrier.
Natural skincare brands also lean towards sourcing their ingredients sustainability, and minimizing their impact on the environment through organic farming and eco-friendly packaging. If you’re looking to lessen your exposure to synthetics, opting for clean skincare can expose you to less potential harmful ingredients, while helping better our planet!
What ingredients should you look out for?
When choosing skincare, it’s just as important to know what to avoid as it is to know what to look for. Steer clear of harsh ingredients like parabens, which are preservatives that can disrupt hormones, and phthalates, often used in fragrances, as they may harm your health. Synthetic fragrances and artificial dyes can irritate sensitive skin and trigger allergies, so opt for products with natural scents or no added fragrance. Avoid sulfates (like SLS and SLES), which are harsh cleansing agents that can strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and irritated. Ingredients like formaldehyde and its releasers (such as DMDM hydantoin) are a no-go, as they are potential carcinogens. Lastly, avoid triclosan, an antibacterial agent linked to hormone disruption and environmental harm. By skipping these ingredients, your skin and health will thank you in the long run!
It’s important to look for ingredients that are gentle, effective, and naturally derived. Below we’ve listed a couple of ingredients that we love seeing in our clean skincare products!
- Hyaluronic acid: A must-have for hydration, as it helps your skin retain moisture and keeps it looking plump and healthy.
- Vitamin C: A beneficial ingredient, known for brightening the skin, reducing dark spots, and protecting against environmental damage caused by free radicals.
- Collagen & vegan collagen: For a boost in skin elasticity, look for collagen, which helps maintain a firm complexion. Vegan collagen is also a great way to boost your skins own natural collagen without relying on animal-derived sources.
- Plant-based oils: Jojoba, argan, and, rosehip oils are fantastic for deeply moisturizing the skin without clogging pores or causing breakouts.
- Gentle exfoliants: Natural options like fruit enzymes from papaya or pineapple can smooth your skin while being kinder than harsh scrubs.
- Soothing ingredients: To calm irritation or redness, ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, and green tea extract work wonders.
- Niacinamide (vitamin B3): A powerhouse ingredient for balancing oil production, reducing the appearance of pores, and improving overall skin texture.
- Squalane: A lightweight yet highly effective hydrater that mimics your skin’s natural oils. Plant-based squalane is a great cruelty-free alternative, too!
