Biotalys, an AgTech firm focused on protein-based biocontrol solutions, announced positive results from initial field trials of its BioFun-6 program. This biocontrol initiative targets Botrytis and powdery mildew affecting fruits and vegetables.
The trial findings indicated that the BioFun-6 AGROBODY candidate effectively protects crops against key fungal pathogens while requiring significantly lower dosage rates than Biotalys’ first biofungicide, EVOCA

CEO Kevin Helash expressed satisfaction with the trial outcomes, emphasizing the validation of the AGROBODY technology platform. The results indicate that BioFun-6 can control fungi more efficiently, which is essential for providing cost-effective and sustainable solutions for growers.
The trials, conducted by external contract research organizations in Europe and the U.S., tested the BioFun-6 AGROBODY candidate on grapes, cucumbers, and tomatoes. The trials compared the candidate’s performance with both synthetic and biological solutions, evaluating its efficacy as part of a standard spray rotation and as a standalone treatment.
Results showed that the BioFun-6 candidate performed at par with EVOCA while using significantly less product. At two-thirds the dose of EVOCA, the BioFun-6 candidate effectively substituted leading chemical products against Botrytis on grapes. In cucumbers, at half the dosage of EVOCA, it achieved comparable disease suppression against powdery mildew while surpassing standard biological fungicides. Initial trials in tomatoes yielded similar outcomes.
Biotalys’ BioFun-6 program targets a combined market exceeding USD 1.2 billion in Europe and the U.S. The global biofungicide and bioinsecticide market is expected to grow 12% annually, reaching over USD 17 billion by 2030. Biotalys plans to continue field testing various BioFun-6 candidates throughout 2025 while assessing their scalability.
