Boston Metal was thrilled to be part of the Breakthrough Energy Summit that took place in London last month. Over three days, global leaders in technology, science, policy and business came together for engaging and inspiring conversations on the latest advancements propelling climate innovation forward.
One of the key themes of this year’s Summit was “climate tech has arrived,” and leaders across industries shared how technology has matured from beyond the lab to the field where it has been able to make an impact on our world’s collective decarbonization journey. Boston Metal was one of the companies highlighted on site for doing just that, notably with the commercial deployment of our Molten Oxide Electrolysis (MOE) technology platform in Brazil for our high-value metals business.
Among the climate tech innovations on display, Boston Metal was honored to be invited to exhibit our MOE technology as part of the Innovation Showcase. Serving as a focal point of the Summit, attendees had the opportunity to stop by our booth to engage with our CEO Tadeu Carneiro and SVP of Business Development Adam Rauwerdink to learn about the work we’re doing to decarbonize steelmaking.
Notably, we had the privilege of welcoming Breakthrough Energy Founder Bill Gates to our booth to discuss how “Boston Metal has nailed the production of ‘green’ steel without coal at scale,” as Bill described our MOE technology in a recent GatesNotes.
In addition to the Innovation Showcase, Tadeu took the stage for a breakout session on Solving for the Built Environment: Embodied and Operational Carbon. Alongside Breakthrough Energy’s Brian Mayers and Cooper Rinzler and other climate tech pioneers, Tadeu shared his insights and expertise on the innovations taking place to decarbonize some of the most important materials that make up our world, including steel.
“Breakthrough Energy is truly dedicated to fostering innovation to accelerate the transition to a net-zero future,” said Tadeu Carneiro, Chairman & CEO, Boston Metal. “We are thankful to be part of such an inspiring community and to have them with us on our journey to revolutionize steel production.”
