Celanese and Siegwerk announced a strategic collaboration aimed at advancing sustainability within the packaging industry. The focus of this partnership is to incorporate bio-based ethyl acetate, produced by Celanese, into Siegwerk’s ink formulations, reducing reliance on fossil-derived raw materials.
The ethyl acetate supplied by Celanese contains 50% bio-based content, derived from renewable feedstocks, which helps lower the carbon footprint of ink production. Siegwerk plans to utilize this bio-based solvent as a drop-in solution. It can replace traditional, fossil-based ethyl acetate without requiring modifications to existing manufacturing processes or compromising ink performance. This seamless integration supports Siegwerk’s SustainUP program and aligns with its HorizonNOW 2030 sustainability framework.
Cathleen Hansohm, Global Supplier Sustainability Manager at Siegwerk, stated, “The use of a 50% bio-content ethyl acetate supports our ambition to incorporate more renewable feedstocks responsibly and at scale, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable procurement.”
