Team update! We’re proud to announce Amy Zhao’s promotion to Principal at Clean Energy Ventures.

Since joining CEV, Amy has become a core member of the investment team, known for her thoughtful, sharp analysis and her ability to build deep conviction in complex climate technologies. She has played a key role across the full investment lifecycle, from sourcing and diligence to ongoing portfolio support, bringing both rigor and perspective to each stage.
Amy is also a natural connector. She has built strong, trusted relationships across the climate ecosystem, from founders to co-investors and industry partners. Her genuine, collaborative approach has made her a valued partner to the entrepreneurs we back and a deeply respected teammate within CEV.
In addition to her investment work, Amy has taken a leadership role in shaping some of CEV’s core strategic initiatives. She has led our Structuring for Scale work, focused on unlocking the financing bottleneck facing early commercial climate projects. This work explores how to better align incentives, transfer risk to the right stakeholders, and design capital stacks that reduce cost of capital—helping move climate technologies from one-off projects to scalable, bankable infrastructure.
Amy has also been developing investment perspectives at the intersection of insurance, emissions mitigation, and climate resiliency. As climate technologies scale and climate risks intensify, her work focuses on how insurtech and AI can help manage, transfer, and mitigate risk to enable reliable, resilient deployment.
Prior to joining CEV, Amy worked in energy and utilities consulting at Strategy&, where she focused on operational and regulatory challenges across the power sector. She also brings experience from Edison International’s corporate strategy and venture team. Amy holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she invested through the Stanford Impact Fund, and a BA in Economics from Harvard University.
Amy’s promotion reflects both her individual contributions and the leadership she brings to advancing CEV’s mission: supporting early-stage climate technologies with the potential for gigaton-scale emissions reduction.
Please join us in congratulating Amy on this well-deserved promotion!
