China will end the tax exemption for lithium-ion batteries that has been in place since 2015. From September, the country will levy a consumption tax on lithium-based batteries, while sodium-ion and solid-state batteries will remain exempt for the time being. The move is intended to encourage the development and adoption of next-generation battery technologies.
