Munich Electrification, a maker of battery management systems for electric vehicles and stationary storage, has secured fresh capital to widen its product line. Private investment firm Ardian is acquiring a majority stake in the Munich-based developer, and Ardian’s Expansion team is providing additional capital to fund the company’s development pipeline and its expansion into new market segments and geographies.

Founded in 2014, Munich Electrification employs around 300 people and develops BMS hardware, electronics, control and sensor components and the software that runs them. Its systems cover cell monitoring, current sensing and functional safety.

The company’s BMS platform supports voltages up to 1,000 V. For high-voltage battery energy storage systems (BESS), the company’s technology covers applications up to 1,500 V DC. The BMS is used in commercial vehicles, BESS and passenger cars.

All systems, including the proprietary software, are developed in-house, and series production is handled by partners in Europe. The company says it will add US production. The product portfolio is built on a modular platform that combines hardware with customized software and system configurations, which Munich Electrification says allows rapid adaptation to different applications and high scalability in production volumes.

Munich’s customers include automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers as well as utility-scale BESS system integrators, primarily in the US and Europe.

“In just over ten years, we have developed into a leading supplier trusted by top-tier commercial vehicle OEMs and energy storage integrators across Europe and the US,” said Georg-Friedrich Graf, CEO of Munich Electrification.
