Saipem has signed a major deal with Eni Industrial Evolution to build the new Priolo biorefinery in Sicily. The project was announced earlier this year by Eni and Q8 Italia. The total value of the contract is around €700 million, and the work is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.

This contract covers the engineering, procurement, and construction of the plant’s main units. It builds on an existing partnership between Saipem and Eni, which started in 2023 and was expanded in 2025, focused on developing sustainable biorefineries in Italy.

The new plant will have the capacity to produce 500,000 tonnes of biofuels each year. It will be flexible enough to make sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) like biojet fuel and HVO-diesel, which are cleaner alternatives to traditional fuels.

Saipem’s involvement in this project reinforces its leadership in building biorefineries. The company has extensive experience in engineering and construction for energy projects and is dedicated to supporting the shift towards cleaner energy sources.

Saipem is a global leader in energy and infrastructure projects, with a focus on innovation and sustainability. It operates in over 50 countries, employs around 30,000 people, and is committed to helping clients move toward Net Zero emissions through advanced technology and sustainable practices.
