CRM solutions provider Salesforce announced a series of new water-focused initiatives, including a new program targeting sustainable water usage in its data centers and energy use, as well as investments supporting local watershed resilience in Brazil and Mexico.

The new commitments form part of a renewed focus by Salesforce on water, under the company’s Nature Positive Strategy. Launched in 2023, the strategy includes goals to measure, manage and develop a plan to reduce nature impacts and dependencies by this year, help support and mobilize the conservation, restoration, and growth of 100 million trees by 2030, contract for 1 million tons of high-quality “blue carbon credits” by 2030, and distribute $100 million through Nature and Sustainability Philanthropy by 2031.

As part of the new phase of its Nature Positive Strategy, Salesforce said that it is launching a new dedicated water program to measure and address water-related risks and opportunities. The new program will include establishing sustainable water withdrawal and discharge expectations for priority first- and third-party data centers, engaging cloud partners to improve transparency and performance, and addressing the water intensity of electricity generation through clean energy procurement and grid decarbonization in priority regions. Additionally, Salesforce said that it is investing in nature-based solutions such as reforestation and groundwater discharge to improve water availability and quality in the ecosystems surrounding priority offices and data centers.

Alongside the new program, Salesforce announced a series of investments targeting community-led restoration in Latin America, including supporting Conservation International’s “Conservador das Águas” project in the Jaguari River Basin to restore springs, increase native vegetation, improve water quality and strengthen watershed management in a vital water source for nearly 9 million people in São Paulo, Brazil, as well as investing in three major restoration initiatives in Mexico.

Salesforce also said that is scaling its commitment to blue carbon. In 2022, Salesforce launched its ‘blue carbon’ markets initiative, aimed at helping to scale sustainable ocean-based carbon markets through the development of consistent standards for assessing projects and credits. Initiatives include partnerships with the “Mangrove Breakthrough” alliance to mobilize finance and strengthen blue carbon project supply, and through its participation in nature-based carbon removal coalition Symbiosis, with the group’s 2026 RFP including blue carbon projects.

Sunya Norman, Senior Vice President of Impact at Salesforce, said:

“At COP30, the world is calling for action that connects local leadership with global scale. By investing in watershed restoration and nature-based solutions, we’re helping protect ecosystems that sustain communities while building a more resilient planet.”
