Nobina has ordered new biogas-powered buses from Scania. They’ll run on SkÃ¥netrafiken’s Malmö-Lund/Kristianstad routes. The buses mark the first use of the Scania Irizar i4 model in Swedish public transport.
Biogas is a renewable fuel made from waste. It cuts CO2 emissions and boosts fuel supply security. Much of Sweden’s compressed biogas is produced locally, keeping value creation close to where the fuel is used.
The new buses are built to SkÃ¥netrafiken’s specifications. They include coach seats, a toilet, and extra interior features for longer journeys. The biogas powertrain runs quietly, adding to passenger comfort.
The order grows Scania’s existing biogas bus fleet for SkÃ¥netrafiken. It also reinforces the region’s long-term investment in renewable fuels. Nobina’s decision to stick with Scania was shaped by positive experience from current operations.
“Sustainability is important to us, and the vehicles should also be easy to own,” said Helena Ericson, Fleet Manager at Nobina. “This is important for our drivers, our passengers, and for our mission to deliver reliable transport every day.”
The buses will be bodybuilt by Irizar. The model is new to Sweden, but the Scania Irizar i4 has already proven popular elsewhere in Europe, especially in Southern Europe, where biogas use is also common.
“Biogas is a circular and locally produced solution that provides great climate benefits here and now,” said Rutger Hörndahl, Key Account Manager at Scania Sverige. “With the Scania Irizar i4, Nobina will receive a modern and comfortable bus that is quiet, energy-efficient and well-suited for regional travel. We are proud to continue to contribute to the sustainable development of public transport in the SkÃ¥ne region.”
LECAB Lastbilar AB, Irizar’s representative in Sweden, will handle delivery. This ensures a smooth process from production through to start of operation.
