Dutch biofuel company Sunoil Biodiesel has received regulatory clearance to sell its fuel products in Belgium. The approval opens another European market for the company, according to Biofuels International.

Belgium now joins a growing list of European countries where Sunoil can sell its biodiesel. The fuel is made from waste materials rather than virgin feedstocks.

Sunoil said entering a new country requires systems that can track products accurately. Companies must also meet sustainability standards and follow local rules across the supply chain. The company said these measures give it a strong base for continued growth across Europe.

The Belgian approval comes as Sunoil ramps up its operations. It is also expanding how its biodiesel is used in transport. The company’s inland barge, Birjo II, was recently converted to run entirely on B100 biodiesel. The fuel is produced in the Netherlands and supplied through a partnership with BFT Tanker Logistics.

Birjo II is now transporting biofuel using 100% renewable fuel. Sunoil said the vessel shows how its biodiesel can help cut emissions in transport.

Sunoil produces biodiesel from certified waste oils and fats. Its production facilities are located in Emmen and Kampen. The company also runs a trading business in Amsterdam.

Its biodiesel serves as an alternative to fossil diesel. It can also be blended with fossil diesel. The fuel is used in road transport, shipping and the energy sector.
