Best Step-Through eBikes of 2026: Quick Picks
Step-Through eBikes Compared: Weight, Speed and Range
Weight is the number you feel every time you lift a bike onto a rack or up a curb. Range is the manufacturer’s rating. Our tested numbers are on each card below.
How We Picked These Step-Through eBikes
Five bikes here have been through our hands. We tested the Ride1Up Portola 02 to 28 mph, 0 to 20 mph in 5.6 seconds and 39.2 miles of range, and we weighed it at 64.7 lb. We scored the Segway MYON 9.6 after range, braking, headlight and thermal checks. We ran the Lectric XP4 750 Long Range to 25.6 miles on throttle alone. We tested the Ride1Up Roadster V3 with its suspension fork, and we got a first ride on the Aventon Pace 5 REC.
The Heybike Ranger 3.0 Pro, Ride1Up Prodigy V2 and Ride1Up Vorsa are picked from verified manufacturer specs and our time on each brand’s other bikes. Those cards carry a researched label instead of a score. For our full method, read how we test.
The Best Step-Through eBikes, Ranked
Every card says whether we tested the bike, got a first ride or picked it on specs.
Best Value:Ride1Up Portola 02
Check latest price →Direct from Ride1Up
If we had to buy one step-through ebike today, it would be the Portola 02. It scored 9.6 in our review, and the test numbers explain why. We verified 28 mph, ran 0 to 20 mph in 5.6 seconds, climbed our test hill in an above-average 12.7 seconds and got 39.2 miles of real range. Those are big numbers for a folding bike on 20 inch wheels.
The upgrade that matters is Intui-Drive, Ride1Up’s torque and cadence sensor. It adds power as you push, so starts from a stop feel smooth instead of jumpy, and the 750W motor now makes 90 Nm. You also get a 100 mm lockout fork, a color display with Apple Find My and dual-piston hydraulic brakes. The catch is weight. Our Lite test bike weighed 64.7 lb, so folding does not make it light.
Why we like it
- ✓ RG Score 9.6
- ✓ 39.2 mi tested range
- ✓ Torque sensor
- ✓ Folds
- ✓ Apple Find My
Keep in mind
- − 64.7 lb on our scale

Best Premium:Segway MYON
Check latest price →Direct from Segway
The MYON is the most connected commuter we have tested, and it tied the Portola 02 with a 9.6. Shimano’s CUES electronic shifting picks the gear for you, and the bike adds GPS tracking, an alarm, Apple Find My and over-the-air updates. You buy it online and pick it up fully built at a local bike shop, which also handles service.
On the road it feels refined more than fast. The 500W hub peaks at 1,500W with 85 Nm through a smooth torque sensor, and it assists to 28 mph. In our testing, expect about 30 to 35 miles riding hard and 45 to 60 with moderate assist from the 722 Wh battery. At 72.75 lb it is heavy, and it only has front suspension.
Why we like it
- ✓ RG Score 9.6
- ✓ Automatic electronic shifting
- ✓ GPS and Find My
- ✓ Shop pickup and service
- ✓ 45 to 60 mi mixed riding
Keep in mind

Best Folding:Lectric XP4 ST
Check latest price →Direct from Lectric
Lectric sells more ebikes than anyone in America, and the XP4 is its folder. The step-through version is the easiest one to get on. We tested the XP4 750 Long Range and ran it to 25.6 miles on throttle alone with a 235 lb rider, into wind and over light hills. The ST on this list is the 500W base model, so expect a little less punch on hills.
In practice, the parts list is the selling point. You get a torque sensor, dual-piston hydraulic brakes with 180 mm rotors, a Shimano 8-speed, turn signals and a 150 lb rear rack. It was also one of the quietest bikes in its class in our testing. At 69 lb it is heavy for a folder, and the battery readout only moves in 10 percent steps.
Why we like it
- ✓ Torque sensor
- ✓ Hydraulic brakes
- ✓ Turn signals
- ✓ 150 lb rear rack
- ✓ Very quiet
Keep in mind
- − 69 lb
- − Tested as the 750 Long Range
Key specs
- Top speed:28 mph
- Rated range:up to 50 mi
- Weight:69 lb
- Brakes:180 mm hydraulic
- Gears:Shimano 8-speed
- Rider height:4 ft 10 in to 6 ft 3 in
Best Cruiser:Aventon Pace 5 REC
Check latest price →Direct from Aventon
The Pace 5 REC is a comfort cruiser with real power. The step-through frame, swept-back bars and adjustable stem sit you upright and relaxed, and the 750W motor peaks at 1,440W. On our first ride it felt quick to respond without the on-off surge cheap hub bikes have.
Regenerative braking is the headline, and it is still rare at this price. You also get 4G GPS tracking, turn signals and Aventon’s app. Aventon claims up to 75 miles from the 733 Wh battery. We have only had a first ride so far, so those numbers are Aventon’s. At about 62 lb it is not a bike to carry upstairs.
Why we like it
- ✓ Regen braking
- ✓ Upright cruiser fit
- ✓ 4G GPS security
- ✓ Turn signals
- ✓ 750W, 1,440W peak
Keep in mind
- − About 62 lb
- − First ride only so far
Key specs
- Top speed:28 mph
- Rated range:up to 75 mi
- Battery:733 Wh
- Weight:about 62 lb
- Peak power:1,440W
- Brakes:hydraulic with regen
Lightest:Ride1Up Roadster V3 Low-Step
Check latest price →Direct from Ride1Up
The Roadster V3 is the bike for anyone who has to lift it. It weighs about 40 lb, pedals like a regular bike with the motor off and still assists to 28 mph. The low-step frame is not a full step-through, but the sloped tube sits low enough to step over easily.
We tested the Roadster V3 with its suspension fork and scored it 8.8. The 500W motor makes 50 Nm through Intui-Drive, which was the most natural assist we have felt at this price. The trade is range. The 360 Wh battery gave us about 18 miles in its top mode, and Ride1Up rates it for 20 to 40 miles. Tektro hydraulic brakes and three frame sizes round it out.
Why we like it
- ✓ About 40 lb
- ✓ Natural torque sensor
- ✓ Three frame sizes
- ✓ Hydraulic brakes
- ✓ 28 mph assist
Keep in mind
- − About 18 mi in top mode
- − Low-step, not full step-through
Key specs
- RG Score:8.8/10 (V3)
- Weight:40 lb
- Battery:360 Wh
- Rated range:20 to 40 mi
- Torque:50 Nm
- Rider height:5 ft 2 in to 6 ft 4 in
Best Fat Tire:Heybike Ranger 3.0 Pro
Check latest price →Direct from Heybike
The Ranger 3.0 Pro is the step-through for bad roads. It has full suspension with a 65 mm hydraulic fork and a linkage rear end, 20 by 4 inch fat tires, and it still folds. Heybike rates the 720 Wh Samsung battery for up to 90 miles.
On paper, the rest is solid too. The 750W motor peaks at 1,400W with 80 Nm through a torque sensor, the brakes are hydraulic with 180 mm rotors, and the payload is 440 lb, the highest here with the Vorsa. At 75 lb it is the heaviest bike on this list. We have not tested it ourselves.
Why we like it
- ✓ Full suspension
- ✓ Folds
- ✓ 4 in fat tires
- ✓ 440 lb payload
- ✓ Up to 90 mi rated
Keep in mind
- − 75 lb
- − Not yet tested by us
Key specs
- Rated range:up to 90 mi
- Battery:720 Wh
- Payload:440 lb
- Weight:75 lb
- Torque:80 Nm
- Rider height:4 ft 11 in to 6 ft 2 in
Best Mid-Drive:Ride1Up Prodigy V2 ST
Check latest price →Direct from Ride1Up
The Prodigy V2 ST is the mid-drive pick. A German Brose TF Sprinter motor sits at the pedals and makes 90 Nm, so it climbs using your gears instead of pushing from the rear wheel. That makes it feel more like riding a regular bike than any hub motor on this list.
The chain version runs a 9-speed Shimano cassette with a MicroShift Advent derailleur. Ride1Up rates it for 28 mph, and the battery is 504 Wh. It weighs 58 lb with the chain and 61 lb with the Enviolo belt drive. We picked it on specs and our time on other Ride1Up bikes.
Why we like it
- ✓ Brose mid-drive, 90 Nm
- ✓ Climbs with your gears
- ✓ 58 lb
- ✓ Belt drive option
- ✓ 28 mph assist
Keep in mind
- − 504 Wh battery
- − No throttle
Key specs
- Motor:Brose TF Sprinter
- Torque:90 Nm
- Battery:504 Wh
- Weight:58 lb (chain)
- Top speed:28 mph
- Payload:300 lb
Best Utility:Ride1Up Vorsa ST
Check latest price →Direct from Ride1Up
The Vorsa ST is the step-through built to haul. Ride1Up rates it for 440 lb, puts a modular rack on the back and drives it with a 95 Nm motor, the strongest hub it makes. The low top tube makes it easy to get on with a loaded rack.
It uses the same Intui-Drive sensor we liked on the Portola 02 and Roadster. A 720 Wh Samsung battery is rated for 30 to 60 miles, and Apple Find My is built into the display. At 65 lb it is lighter than the Ranger and the MYON. We have not tested the Vorsa itself.
Why we like it
- ✓ 95 Nm motor
- ✓ 440 lb payload
- ✓ Intui-Drive sensor
- ✓ Apple Find My
- ✓ 65 lb
Keep in mind
- − Not yet tested by us
Key specs
- Payload:440 lb
- Weight:65 lb
- Torque:95 Nm
- Battery:720 Wh
- Rated range:30 to 60 mi
- Rider height:5 ft 0 in to 6 ft 4 in
Step-Through, Low-Step or Step-Over: What Is the Difference?
A step-through frame drops the top tube almost to the pedals, so you can walk into the bike instead of swinging a leg over the seat. A low-step frame, which Ride1Up uses on the Roadster, keeps a short sloped tube that you still step over, just not very high. A step-over frame has the classic high top tube.
Step-through frames are easier to mount with a loaded rack, in a skirt or at a stoplight where you need to put a foot down fast. The trade is a little less frame stiffness and sometimes a few extra pounds. In practice, once you are rolling around town, you will not notice it.
How to Choose a Step-Through eBike
Any low frame is easy to mount. Living with the bike comes down to these specs.
- Weight: If you will lift the bike onto a rack or up steps, this matters more than range. The Roadster V3 is about 40 lb. Most bikes here weigh 60 to 75 lb.
- Torque sensor: A torque sensor adds power as you push, so the bike does not lurch when you start. Most bikes on this list have one, and every bike we tested here does.
- Wheel size: Twenty inch wheels sit lower and fold smaller. Bigger wheels, like the MYON’s 27.5 inch set, roll over bumps more smoothly.
- Throttle: A throttle gets you moving from a stop without pedaling hard. The Prodigy V2 has none, so check before you buy if that matters to you.
- Brakes: Buy hydraulic discs on anything that assists to 28 mph. They stop harder with less hand effort, which matters in traffic.
- Security: Step-through bikes are popular commuters, and commuters get stolen. The MYON, Pace 5 REC, Portola 02 and Vorsa all have GPS or Find My tracking.
Sizing a Step-Through eBike
Start with the rider height range on the spec sheet. The Portola 02 fits riders from 4 ft 10 in to 6 ft 4 in, the MYON from about 5 ft 1 in to 6 ft 4 in, and the Heybike Ranger 3.0 Pro from 4 ft 11 in to 6 ft 2 in. If you sit near either end of a range, look for a bike sold in more than one frame size, like the Roadster V3.
Next, think about fit at a stop. You want both feet flat on the ground while you straddle the frame, and you want to reach the bars without locking your elbows. Twenty inch wheels, like the ones on the Portola 02, XP4 and Ranger, put the whole bike lower, which helps shorter riders.
Step-Through eBike FAQs
What is the best step-through ebike in 2026?
The Ride1Up Portola 02. It scored 9.6 in our testing, hit 28 mph, went 39.2 miles and folds. The Segway MYON also scored 9.6 if you want automatic shifting and GPS security.
What is the lightest step-through ebike?
The Ride1Up Roadster V3 Low-Step at about 40 lb. It is a low-step frame rather than a full step-through, but the tube sits low enough to step over easily.
Are step-through ebikes good for tall riders?
Yes, as long as the height range fits. The Portola 02, Segway MYON and Ride1Up Vorsa all fit riders up to 6 ft 4 in.
Is a step-through ebike weaker than a step-over?
Not in any way you will notice around town. Step-through frames give up a little stiffness, and most bikes here are rated for 300 to 440 lb. The Heybike Ranger 3.0 Pro and Ride1Up Vorsa are both rated for 440 lb.
Which step-through ebike folds?
The Ride1Up Portola 02, Lectric XP4 ST and Heybike Ranger 3.0 Pro all fold. The Portola 02 is the one we tested the most, and our test bike weighed 64.7 lb, so folding does not mean light.
What is the best step-through ebike for hills?
The Ride1Up Prodigy V2 ST, because its Brose mid-drive uses your gears to climb. Among hub bikes, the Portola 02 climbed our test hill in an above-average 12.7 seconds.
Do step-through ebikes have a throttle?
Many do. The Portola 02 and Lectric XP4 have thumb throttles. The Prodigy V2 does not, so check the spec sheet before you buy.
Final Thoughts
For most riders, buy the Ride1Up Portola 02. Of the bikes we tested, it gives you the most for the money, and it folds. If you want the most tech and a shop to service it, get the Segway MYON. If you need to lift the bike often, the 40 lb Roadster V3 Low-Step is the one.
We will add test results to the researched picks as those bikes come through our loop. Every spec on this page is also in our Ride Finder.
