Dutch biotech Vivici has secured €12.5 million from the European Innovation Council’s Accelerator Programme to scale its precision fermentation protein portfolio.
The EIC Accelerator is the EU’s flagship deep-tech funding scheme. It backs a small number of companies per round from a large, competitive field. Selection follows a rigorous evaluation process, including an interview before a jury of experienced investors and entrepreneurs.
Vivici produces dairy proteins without conventional dairy farming. Its Vivitein ingredient portfolio uses precision fermentation, a process in which microorganisms are programmed to produce specific proteins with high purity and consistency. The approach offers food and nutrition brands an alternative to traditional dairy supply chains, with fewer cost and availability constraints.
The company launched its first ingredient, Vivitein BLG (beta-lactoglobulin), before bringing a second, Vivitein LF (lactoferrin), to the US market earlier this year with self-affirmed GRAS status.
The new funding will support expanded market access and supply for both ingredients, alongside further product development.
“It tells us that Europe sees the same opportunity we do, to turn the promise of precision fermentation into a commercial reality, at scale,” said Stephan van Sint Fiet, CEO of Vivici.
Simon Penfold, Chief Commercial Officer, added: “Customer demand for our ingredients is already strong, and this backing lets us meet it with the supply and pace the market expects.”
Founded in 2023 and based in the Netherlands, Vivici sits at the intersection of fermentation science and ingredients industry expertise. The EIC award signals growing institutional confidence in precision fermentation as a lever for building a more sustainable food system.
