Summary: The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress has totally changed the quality of my sleep and helped relieve a lot of the neck and shoulder tension I’d been dealing with from years of sleeping on an unsupportive mattress. Handcrafted in California, this mattress is GREENGUARD Gold Certified and praised for its numerous sustainability certifications. In addition to being luxuriously comfortable, the multilayered design features organic latex, cotton, and wool, making it a great nontoxic option. The Botanical Bliss design is supportive yet soft, both cooling and luxurious, and feels like the perfect balance for side and back sleepers.

What I Love:

  • I love how supportive the natural latex of the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress feels without making me feel like I’m sinking into the bed.
  • The mattress is crafted from layers of GOLS certified organic latex, GOTS certified cotton, and GOTS certified wool. It is also GREENGUARD Gold certified which means no harmful chemicals are being emitted while you sleep.
  • As a combo back and side sleeper, my neck and shoulder tension has significantly improved after consistent nights sleeping on my new mattress.
  • For hot sleepers, this mattress is a lifeline because of its use of natural cooling materials like wool and latex. I’ve felt extremely temperature-regulated while using it!

Things To Note:

  • The Plushbeds Botanical Bliss comes shrink-wrapped and tightly rolled inside a large cardboard box. Latex mattresses tend to be heavy, and although it’s malleable, I’d definitely recommend having someone help with the initial setup.
  • I noticed a faint but natural smell during the unboxing process, but it disappeared completely by the next morning and wasn’t overpowering.
  • This mattress feels like a mix between a foam and spring mattress, so it may be an adjustment for individuals who prefer a very specific feel or are used to one type of mattress.

I grew up on spring mattresses and hand-me-downs that were already a few years past their prime. When I moved to New York City, I bought the cheapest mattress-in-a-box I could find and dragged it up what felt like a million stairs to my sixth-floor walk-up apartment. At the time, it did the job. It was my first personal mattress, and I was just happy to have something that marked the beginning of a new era! Back then, I wasn’t really thinking about the benefits of having a natural mattress, but now I can’t believe I went so long without realizing how much your mattress affects your life.

“I can’t believe I went so long without realizing how much your mattress affects your life.”

As a Taurus who feels the most put together and connected to myself when my space actually supports me, I realized I was missing a huge part of the picture. Sleep takes up a third of our lives, and once I started thinking about supporting that part of my life as best I could, upgrading my mattress suddenly felt way more important. A good night’s sleep is reflective of a mattress’s overall quality but also the individual materials that it is made up of. As I looked further into the world of organic and sustainable mattresses, I realized how important natural and non-toxic materials are for both quality and creating a safe, healthy sleep environment free from harmful VOCs. It felt exciting to start a new chapter knowing I was actually fully supported by my surroundings.

When I moved back home to Los Angeles with a few bags and the dream of a fresh start, I ended up back on another old hand-me-down mattress. I accepted it for the time being, but I really didn’t realize how much a good mattress could improve my daily life until I tested the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss mattress. Upon testing, it felt significant that I was taking these steps to support my life the way this new era called for. My old mattress was stagnant and hard; it didn’t feel like I was supported or waking up my best self because of the quality of sleep I was receiving. I always felt a step behind, waking up with a stiff neck after a night of tossing and turning.

With the new mattress, I now feel prepared for my days. They feel longer and more abundant, and I feel energized in the morning because I am actually supported during those moments of rest and recovery. It’s safe to say the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress is the most comfortable and supportive mattress I’ve owned.

About Plushbeds

First off, a little about the brand: PlushBeds has been a leading contender in the push for more sustainable sleep practices since 2008. Handcrafted in California, they offer all-natural, eco-conscious sleep options that have exceeded some of the most rigorous certification standards in the mattress industry. Their materials meet the GOTS and GOLS certification standards, meaning there are no harmful chemicals used in or during the production of their mattresses. The organic cotton, latex, and wool are sourced from farms that follow sustainable practices, and each mattress undergoes a 95-point inspection before arriving at your door.

“Each mattress undergoes a 95-point inspection before arriving at your door.”

What excited me about the brand is how much they focus on both comfort and health. There is an emphasis on using local, high-quality, certified organic materials that actually make you feel like your sleep environment is both healthier and more supportive.

Why I chose the Botanical Bliss

As someone who sleeps on both my side and back, I was curious about what it would be like to sleep on a latex mattress with its natural buoyancy and responsiveness. Made with organic latex, cotton, and wool, the Botanical Bliss is designed to provide both comfort and support without harmful chemicals.

“Made with organic latex, cotton, and wool, the Botanical Bliss is designed to provide both comfort and support without harmful chemicals.”

Over the years, our editors have tested a wide range of latex mattresses and unpacked their benefits in our Natural Latex Mattress Guide, where the Botanical Bliss is highly recommended by chiropractors and orthopedic specialists for its superior comfort, support, and spinal alignment. I had recently started acupuncture to help with tension and pain in my neck and shoulders, which I believe came from a mix of stress and years of unsupported sleeping positions. My old spring mattress often left me waking up stiff and never fully supported me correctly, especially as a side sleeper, which drove me to search for a mattress that could provide the comfort and alignment I had been missing.

I ultimately decided on the Botanical Bliss model of the 10-inch Queen mattress in medium firmness. The medium model is designed to work for about 80% of sleepers because of its ability to comfortably support multiple sleep positions. This felt like the best fit for me since I move around in my sleep and needed something that could adjust with me throughout the night. The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress also comes in a medium-firm option and a dual firmness (M/MF) version, which is great for partners with different sleep preferences.

One of the things that I loved most about the Botanical Bliss mattress was the built-in support system. I loved the idea of getting pressure relief without feeling like I was sinking into the bed. The mattress is made with six layers of organic latex, cotton, and wool that are designed to balance softness and support really well.

“I loved the idea of getting pressure relief without feeling like I was sinking into the bed.”

To break it down: At the base is a GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex support core that helps keep the mattress structured and supportive. On top of the core are natural latex comfort layers that cushion pressure points like shoulders, hips, muscles, and joints. This is topped off with GOTS-certified organic wool and cotton, which helps to keep the mattress breathable and cooling, which has been amazing because I tend to sleep really hot.

Everything is wrapped in an organic cotton cover with a soft circular knit finish that gives it an extra comfortable feel, especially on your hip and shoulder areas. For those who want a softer, more cushioned sleep experience, our editor Kate’s review of the Signature Bliss mattress offers a great alternative, especially for sleepers who prefer a plush hybrid feel.

Shipping and set up

My PlushBeds mattress arrived only five days after placing my order with the free FedEx delivery option. It showed up on my front porch encased in a large cardboard box. The box itself is LONG and definitely heavy, especially if you have stairs, as I do. I managed to slide it into my living room before recruiting my partner to help with the official unboxing process.

For the unboxing process, I definitely recommend having help when setting it up. Latex mattresses are heavier than regular foam mattresses, and even though it comes compressed in a box, it still has some serious weight to it.

“I definitely recommend having help when setting it up.”

The first step was to get it out of the cardboard packaging, which comes taped and stapled closed. You may need help for this step of the process; my partner ended up sliding the mattress out of the cardboard while I held the box in place. The Plushbeds mattress comes compressed and shrink-wrapped. Once we got it out of the cardboard shipping box, it was much easier to carry the compressed mattress to my room, where we positioned it on the bed frame.

I was worried about the mattress unrolling too fast while cutting it out of the plastic, but the way Plushbeds is packaged made it so the mattress unrolled slowly as I removed each plastic layer.

Once out of the box, the Plushbeds mattress quickly took shape. Plushbeds recommends giving the mattress 30-60 minutes to decompress once unboxed but I still decided to let it sit until the evening when I made the bed. One thing I immediately appreciated was that there wasn’t any intense chemical smell when opening it. Because Plushbeds uses natural latex and organic materials, there really isn’t the same off-gassing you get with some mattresses-in-a-box. There was only a faint natural smell at first that honestly reminded me a little bit of grass and oatmeal, and it significantly faded by the time I had put the sheets on the bed. The cotton cover felt bouncy and luxurious, and I honestly thought the pattern was pretty cute!

Sleeping on the Botanical Bliss

The first time I lay down on the mattress, I noticed an immediate difference. It curved to support my spine and filled in the areas that usually felt unsupported on my old mattress. It was dreamy. As I was rolling around, I found that every position felt supported. The latex has this really nice balance where it feels soft and cushioned while still maintaining a supportive structure underneath.

Sleeping on it for the first night was even better than I expected. (My 8+ year old hand-me-down mattress didn’t stand a chance.) I felt almost weightless, and the mattress adjusted easily every time I moved positions throughout the night. I woke up way less than usual and felt noticeably more rested in the morning.

I’ve had the mattress for over a month now, and I can say that the quality of my sleep has definitely improved. The firmness has stayed consistent since I’ve had the Botanical Bliss, and the tension in my neck and shoulders has gotten significantly better. I feel comfortable sleeping on both my side and back now. I’ve also noticed that I sleep way cooler throughout the night compared to my old mattress.

Another thing I really love is the motion isolation. My partner tends to toss and turn more than I do, but I barely notice movement during the night anymore. It’s been a month, and we still both talk about how excited we are to tuck in every night. Overall, I’ve been sleeping deeper, waking up less, and feeling a real improvement in the support my body has been getting while I sleep.

So, is the Plushbeds Botanical Bliss Mattress worth the price?

At $2,249 for a queen PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress, it’s definitely an investment. I think it’s absolutely worth it for how much it’s improved my sleep, overall comfort, and peace of mind knowing that I’m not bringing harsh chemicals into my bedroom. PlushBeds also offers flexible payment plans, a 100-night sleep trial, and a warranty, which makes the purchase feel a lot less intimidating when you’re investing in a higher quality mattress.

“It’s absolutely worth it for how much it’s improved my sleep, overall comfort, and peace of mind.”

I think this mattress is best for people who want a more natural and non-toxic sleep setup, people dealing with neck, shoulder, or back tension, hot sleepers, and anyone who wants support without feeling like they’re compromising on comfort. I think it’s especially great for side and combination sleepers because it cushions pressure points really well while still supporting your body.

If you love an ultra-soft mattress that you completely sink into, latex might feel a little different at first since it has more bounce and support than memory foam. But for me, it ended up being exactly what my body needed.

Overall, the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress has definitely improved the way I sleep. I didn’t realize how much tension, discomfort, and interrupted sleep I had just gotten used to as “normal” until I finally had a mattress that actually supported me properly! I’m now sleeping more deeply and waking up feeling genuinely supported.
