Continental has launched two new tires – EcoContact 7 and EcoContact 7 S – both with a focus on improved driving efficiency, lower rolling noise and dynamic handling. The tires are designed for EVs but can also reduce the fuel consumption of IC vehicles.

The two new EcoContact models are rated Class A for rolling resistance and Class A and B for wet braking and rolling noise. The tires use a new Green Chili 3.0 rubber compound, and Smart Energy Casing technology that Continental has already implemented in the AllSeasonContact 2 tire.

The EcoContact 7 and EcoContact 7 S also use new materials in the tire carcass, inner layer and tire wall. These reduce friction inside the tire, thereby lowering rolling resistance and increasing energy efficiency. The sidewalls of the tires and the Aero Dimple structure take inspiration from golf balls. The dimples embedded in the sidewall reduce the air turbulence behind the tire so that the vehicle uses less energy to move the tire.

Continental also developed a new Silent Pattern tread pattern specifically for the EcoContact 7 and EcoContact 7 S to help reduce road noise. The spacing of the tread blocks and the angle of the blocks were optimized at the same time. The resulting tread design is ideally matched to the frequencies that normally occur at speeds of around 50km/h and contributes to a more pleasant noise perception for passers-by and residents.

The EcoContact 7’s focus is predominantly on low rolling resistance, while the tread compound of the EcoContact 7 S ensures improved wet grip and handling. The 7S also promises to offer better steering precision and increased grip.

The EcoContact 7 and EcoContact 7 S have already received original equipment approvals from manufacturers such as BYD, Mercedes and Volkswagen.
