A vibrant discussion at the event “The Future of Plastics is Bio – And It’s Recyclable!” held in Berlin on 1 July 2026 and organised within the framework of the MoeBIOS and ReBioCycle project. This event format combines accessible introductions to bioplastics with the latest recycling results from three EU-funded projects, ReBioCycle, MoeBIOS, and PROSPER, an open expert Q&A, and positive messages about bioplastics’ role in a circular economy.

The roadshow targets companies that produce packaged goods, waste management operators, and professionals working on the PPWR. Emerging key take-home messages from the discussion with participants and speakers revolved around:

  • Materials already built for circularity
  • A clear, expanding toolkit of recycling routes
  • Regulatory tailwind through the PPWR

A long feature on these messages with links to the presentations is now available on the ReBioCycle website:

This specific event was hosted by the Enterprise Europe Network Berlin. The speakers in this edition were Patrick Zimmermann (FKuR), member of European Bioplastics, Manuel Bruch, expert at BIOrbic and Christoph Petri, from the Deutsche Industrie- und Handelskammer.

The three CBE JU bioplastics recycling cluster projects launched a joint roadshow taking their researchers and results directly to professionals in seven European countries: Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, and France. The next stopovers of this format will be in Lyon in October and in Italy in early 2027. Further dates will be disclosed on the ReBioCycle website and LinkedIn.

The events are facilitated by European Bioplastics or the European Bioeconomy Bureau depending on the locations. ReBioCycle and MoeBIOS are supported by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and its members. Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or CBE JU. Neither the European Union nor the CBE JU can be held responsible for them.
