Asia’s economies are navigating higher energy costs and global uncertainty, but growth remains comparatively resilient. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) expects developing Asia and the Pacific economies to grow 5.0% in real terms in 2026.
This visualization, created by Aneesh Anand, ranks 18 selected Asian economies by their 2026 real GDP growth forecasts from the ADB’s Asian Development Outlook September 2026.

Taiwan stands apart with an 11.0% forecast, 2.1 percentage points above second-place Kyrgyzstan. Vietnam ranks third at 7.8%, while Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and India sit around 7.0%.
Technology, Investment, and Domestic Demand Drive Growth
Taiwan’s exceptional performance is closely tied to the global AI investment cycle. Surging demand for semiconductors and other technology products has fueled exports, with AI-related demand from the U.S. playing a particularly important role.
Elsewhere, the engines of growth are more varied. Vietnam’s 7.8% forecast is supported by manufacturing, exports, and domestic demand, building on its emergence as a major production hub. India is expected to grow 7.0% in FY2026/27, supported by investment demand and resilient services exports.
A Diverse Growth Story Across Asia
Central Asian economies also feature prominently. Kyrgyzstan is forecast to grow 8.9%, while Tajikistan and Uzbekistan reach 7.0%, reflecting combinations of public and fixed investment, private consumption, services, and industrial activity.
Further south, Indonesia’s 5.2% growth highlights the importance of domestic consumption in Southeast Asia’s largest economy. These varied growth models also help explain shifting economic influence across Southeast Asia.
The outlook is not without risks. The ADB identifies geopolitical escalation, tighter financial conditions and trade uncertainty, and El Niño among key downside threats to the region. Taiwan also faces the challenge of an unusually concentrated boom, with traditional industries such as textiles and plastics benefiting far less from the AI surge.
