As a non-religious person, I’m generally not a fan of the Catholic Church, but I must admit that it’s most definitely becoming more benign as the years pass, and may eventually confer a true benefit to its adherents, insofar as they may adopt the teachings of Christ re: peace, humility, feeding the hungry, healing the sick, and supporting those less fortunate.
What Pope Leo says at left is a great example.
The concept behind the Holy Wars/Crusades of 700 years ago is long dead, though there are still plenty of evangelical Christians who believe that God blesses all American endeavors, including the military.
