BioCal
straws incorporate Ocean Calcium Sand, a carbon-negative mineral, which helps reduce dependence on petrochemical plastics. During natural “whiting” events, these straws actively remove CO₂ from the atmosphere. Since their launch in 2023, over 84 million straws have been processed, and the product has achieved BPI certification.
Kenn Budlong, COO of NantBioRenewables, stated that the recognition reflects the company’s efforts and dedication. He noted that the innovative packaging aims to address environmental challenges and set new industry standards.
Barbara Schreiner, Marketing & Communications Manager, commented that the nomination recognizes the company’s focus on innovation and sustainability.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for October 22, 2025, where winners will be announced
