The LYCRA Company announced a new strategic partnership with Texhong International Group. The deal focuses on renewable LYCRA® fiber made with 30% plant-based content. The partnership was signed during an event in Shanghai. Attending were Jason Wang, Vice President of Asia at The LYCRA Company, and Zhou Xia, Chief Operating Officer of Texhong.

The LYCRA Company is a global leader in innovative, sustainable fibers for apparel and personal care. Under the agreement, Texhong will be the exclusive partner to introduce Renewable LYCRA® fiber to China’s core-spun yarn industry. This move aims to speed up the use of bio-derived spandex worldwide.

The new fiber contains 30% plant-based material, partly sourced from dent corn. It is designed to offer the same elasticity, comfort, and durability as traditional LYCRA® fiber. A recent Life Cycle Assessment showed that this fiber can reduce carbon emissions by up to 32% compared to fossil-based LYCRA®.

Jason Wang emphasized the importance of the partnership. “It highlights LYCRA’s leadership in sustainable fiber innovation,” he said. “Renewable LYCRA® is ready for commercial use. Working with Texhong will help scale production. Our goal is to promote low-impact, innovative materials across the textile industry.”

Texhong will use its established supply chain to develop custom core-spun yarns with the renewable fiber. These products will offer a sustainable solution from bio-based raw materials to finished yarns. The companies will also collaborate on new innovations in bio-derived spandex, yarn manufacturing, and end-use applications.

Zhou Xia noted that Texhong has worked with LYCRA® fibers for nearly 20 years. The partnership has included technological advancements like LYCRA® dualFX® fabric technology. Both companies are committed to technological progress, operational synergy, and sustainability. Their collaboration reflects a shared goal to drive innovation in the textile industry.
