Testori Textiles has been named a finalist for the 2026 Crystal Cabin Award in the Sustainable Cabin category, highlighting its innovative Plant-Based Fibre Textile System. This new material platform introduces plant-derived fibers into key aircraft interior applications, such as seat covers, curtains, and wall panels.

The goal is to replace conventional fossil-based textiles without sacrificing safety or performance. They aim to demonstrate that bio-based materials can meet rigorous aviation standards.

Giacomo Villa, COO of Testori Textiles, explained, “Our aim was to develop a practical, scalable textile system that airlines can adopt without operational disruptions or increased costs.” Unlike a single fabric, the system encompasses a suite of materials designed for various interior components. In this way, they are offering airlines a more uniform aesthetic and performance.

Crucially, the plant-based fibers meet the same strict safety benchmarks as synthetic and animal-derived textiles. These include fire, smoke, toxicity, and heat release standards such as FAA’s FAR 25.853. The materials are engineered for durability, supporting repeated cleaning and resisting wear: key factors for high-traffic cabin environments.

By utilizing renewable plant fibers, Testori’s approach also reduces reliance on fossil fuels, lowering overall carbon emissions. The materials maintain a premium look and feel, aligning with airline branding and passenger comfort.

Built on a foundation of in-house weaving, finishing, and development, the company emphasizes sustainability from raw fiber to finished product. With a regional supply chain in Europe, the system minimizes transportation emissions and ensures consistent quality.

The textile platform can be integrated into existing certification processes, making it a practical choice for airlines seeking greener solutions. Villa emphasized, “It’s about creating a system that combines eco-friendliness with operational reliability, offering airlines a way to reduce their environmental footprint without compromise.”
