The European Circular Bioeconomy Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) has launched its 2026 call for project proposals. A total of €170.7 million is available to support the development and scale-up of competitive bio-based industries across Europe. The deadline for applications is 22 September 2026.
This funding aligns with the European Commission’s strategy for a sustainable and competitive bioeconomy. It aims to strengthen Europe’s industrial resilience, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and promote circular bio-based value chains. The call covers 13 topics, supporting innovation from research to industrial deployment.
Key areas include boosting biorefinery competitiveness, developing sustainable alternatives for fertilisers and personal care, diversifying food ingredients, and creating recyclable and biodegradable materials. Funding is also available for projects improving separation in biorefineries, developing bio-based polymers, and producing bio-based textiles and packaging.
The call supports three types of projects: Innovation Actions, which scale up solutions; Research and Innovation Actions, which develop new technologies; and Coordination and Support Actions, which foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Applicants can submit proposals via the EU Funding & Tenders Portal. To help prepare, CBE JU organized an online Info Day on 12 March 2026, with recordings and guidance available on their website. A matchmaking event took place in Brussels on 21 April 2026, offering opportunities to build partnerships.
After the deadline, proposals will be evaluated by independent experts. Results are expected in early 2027, leading to grant agreements for successful projects. This call aims to accelerate Europe’s transition to a sustainable, circular bioeconomy.
