Protected Harvest
Ready for this one… Here we have a label that certified farmers use when they use a management system known as, “Biointensive Integrated Pest Management.”
Who is involved with this management system comes down to some potato farmers. The state of Wisconsin hosts a few farmers and that program in Wisconsin is known under the name Healthy Grown Potatoes. The seal of Protected Harvest is used by these members. I am sure there are other farmers growing other products, but a listing was not readily available when researching this label.
Protected Harvest is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is
Headquartered in Soquel, California. The organization provides independent, third-party certification for sustainably grown agricultural products. The primary mission is to advance verifiable sustainable practices by establishing rigorous, peer-reviewed environmental standards. Translation: This label means, more or less, that the farmers are using a less toxic pesticide. Perhaps Organic labels are better.
