Mahindra has crossed the one lakh mark for its Electric Origin SUVs, adding another important milestone to its growing electric vehicle business in India.

The company announced the achievement while reporting its September 2026 sales. Mahindra said it crossed 1 lakh billings of its Electric Origin SUVs since launch, as its overall SUV business also continued to grow during the month.

The milestone comes at a time when electric SUVs are becoming an increasingly important part of India’s passenger vehicle market. Mahindra entered this space with its new-generation electric SUVs, moving beyond simply converting existing petrol or diesel models into EVs.

Mahindra’s Electric SUV Portfolio Crosses 1 Lakh

Mahindra’s Electric Origin range currently includes models such as the BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S. The first two models were launched in January 2025, with customer deliveries beginning in March 2025.

The company’s latest announcement means the Electric Origin portfolio has now crossed the 1 lakh billing mark since launch. Mahindra itself describes the achievement as a defining moment in its electric journey.

It is worth noting that Mahindra has used the term “billing” for this milestone, rather than reporting it specifically as customer registrations or deliveries. That distinction matters when comparing the figure with sales numbers reported by other automakers.

September Sales Add to the Momentum

Mahindra also had a strong September across its broader vehicle portfolio. The company sold 64,092 SUVs in the domestic market, registering 14% year-on-year growth.

Its overall auto sales, including exports, stood at 1,14,874 units, up 15% compared with September last year. Domestic commercial vehicle sales also increased 14% to 30,420 units.

The SUV business has been particularly important for Mahindra, and the continued growth of the segment provides a favourable backdrop for its electric models.

Between April and September 2026, Mahindra sold 3,58,142 utility vehicles, compared with 2,97,570 units during the same period last year, representing 20% growth.

Why the 1 Lakh Milestone Matters

The significance of Mahindra’s achievement goes beyond the headline number.

Electric vehicles in India have gradually moved from being a relatively small part of the passenger vehicle market to a more visible choice for mainstream buyers. SUVs, in particular, remain one of the strongest segments in the Indian market.

That makes Mahindra’s Electric Origin strategy an important part of its broader SUV business. Instead of positioning its EVs merely as alternatives to conventional vehicles, the company has developed a separate electric portfolio with its own design and technology approach.

The response also gives Mahindra a growing base of EV customers and real-world experience with electric SUVs.

What Comes Next for Mahindra

Crossing the one-lakh mark is a significant point in Mahindra’s EV journey, but the next challenge will be maintaining that momentum as competition in India’s electric SUV market becomes stronger.

For now, the numbers show that Mahindra has been able to build considerable demand for its Electric Origin range in a relatively short period.

With 1 lakh Electric Origin SUV billings crossed since launch, Mahindra has established a sizeable presence in India’s electric SUV market. The company’s ability to build on this base will depend on its upcoming products, production capacity and how quickly more Indian buyers move towards electric SUVs.

For Mahindra, the one-lakh milestone is therefore less an endpoint and more a marker of how far its electric SUV strategy has travelled—and how much further it still has to go.
